Raima Sen is daughter of actress Moon Moon Sen and granddaughter of legendary actress Suchitra Sen. Her younger sister, Riya Sen, also in Bollywood industry. Their father is Bharat dev Varma, a descendant of the erstwhile royal family of Tripura state. The paternal grandmother Ila Devi, the princess of Cooch Behar (in Bengal), whose younger sister Gayatri Devi is the Maharani of Jaipur.
She made her debut in the film Godmother, which was an outstanding success, but have been overlooked a minor role in favor of the main character, played by Shabana Azmi. She has a starred in the film Daman playing Raveena Tandon's daughter, where small performance was estimated. The breakthrough came when she played in the Rituparno Ghosh’s film Chokher Bali. She has high praise for her role as the simple, submissive Ashalata. After a few average films had a known critical hit chance in 2005 with Parineeta. Since then she had two more hits with the action thriller Dus and the Bengali film Antar Mahal.
